Weekly Uplifting Stories - August 5th, 2024

Too much exposure to negative news can desensitize us.

Being hammered with only negative news spreads fear and panic, pitting us against each other.

Just as the Olympics reminds us, regardless of nationality or differences in culture, people everywhere are trying to do the best they can with the resources they have.

Do right. Do your best. Treat others as you want to be treated. — Lou Holtz

Look beyond all that noise and you will see that people all over the world are still helping one another and passing on kindness.

This week, we present you with a few positive examples of people making a difference.

  • Five-year-old with autism expresses gratitude for her mom
  • Singer sponsors heart surgeries for children
  • Air-conditioned van allows furry friends to get some exercise
  • Rescue cat brings joy to others

Five-year-old girl with autism expresses her love for her mother for the first time.

Keep your tissues handy because this video will simply melt your heart!

Zoey has autism; she faces difficulty with verbal communication. According to her mom Delphine Expert, Zoey started speaking a little bit since taking up dance and music in September last year.

We get a glimpse of Zoey’s perspective through this adorable video in which we can see her capturing her “treasures”. She is naming the things she can identify as she walks along.

The excitement in her voice is palpable as she focuses the camera on her mom.

“With the help of a simple camera words came out more easily when she was alone and having fun and she managed to express in her own way all of the love that she has for me in her heart but would never be able to tell this to be directly,” said Delphine.

Singer funds free heart surgeries for underprivileged children.

Palak’s heart is just as beautiful as her voice.

Through her charity concert, “Saving Little Hearts”, Palak Muchhal raises funds for free heart surgeries for underprivileged children.

Palak did her first charity concert when she was just seven years old. And she hasn’t looked back since!

She has helped save the lives of over 3,000 children!

“Every concert I do is dedicated to heart surgeries of these children whose parents cannot afford the expenses. I still have 413 kids on my waiting list, and it feels like my responsibility. I hope to continue this work forever,” says Palak.

Dog-friendly treadmills in air-conditioned vans give dogs much-needed exercise in hot weather.

Every dog needs regular exercise, regardless of the breed.

But extreme hot weather can be a detriment.

Run Dawg is a mobile dog gym, which allows dogs to get exercise in a safe and climate-controlled environment.

Founders Ray Santopietro and Jennifer Stricos came up with the idea of operating a climate-controlled mobile gym to help their bulldog Frankie get some exercise in the Vegas heat.

Frankie is a rescue dog who had never been out of a crate. He used to have behavioural issues, so his new parents decided to use exercise to help him.

The van has non-motorized treadmills so dogs can run or walk at their own pace.

“To see this full-on absolute joy, where the dog just gets to let all of its own frustrations and all of its own, uh, kind of things that are going on, let it all sort of wash away at that moment and just run as fast as they want to run,” said Ray.

Rescue cat finds healing through acts of kindness.

Finzi doesn’t let his deformity stop him from performing random acts of kindness.

As he rides along with Alison, Finzi is learning to thrive and step out of his comfort zone.

Alison is the co-founder of Kitty City, a non-profit that provides a safe haven for rescue cats like Finzi.

Once a week, Alison and Finzi head out to bring some joy to people and inspire others to be kind.

“Maybe someone will look at him and say, ‘I can do it. I’ve got a little bit more in me. I’m going to keep trying,” said Alison.
