Community shows up in a meaningful way for a cashier with special needs.
At a Publix store in Acworth, Georgia, people line up specifically at the register when Michael Masterangelo is working. Sometimes, they even wait 30 to 40 minutes just to check out in his line.
Michael genuinely cares about the people in his community, and it shows in the way he interacts with every customer. He makes each person feel important when they come through his checkout lane.
It’s no surprise that he is loved by the entire community.
To support his personal fundraising goal for the Special Olympics, an organization he has been part of since childhood, he raised more than $31,000 at his register in less than a week!
“I love this whole community, and everybody loves and supports me,” said Michael.
Teenager jumps into action to save a child who had fallen through the ice.
Recently, when a child fell into a frozen pond at Springfield Park in New York City, 14-year-old Alex Smith immediately sprang into action.
He quickly slid a safety ladder out to the boy and stayed with him until help arrived. Firefighters reached the scene shortly afterward, carried out the ice rescue, and pulled the child safely from the water.
Alex’s quick thinking has earned him widespread praise from the community.
“I was like ‘oh my God, oh my God, I need to go help him,’ right? The first thing I jumped to was help him – I didn’t even call the police or nothing, I just instantly ran to help him,” Alex said.
The heartwarming journey of a stray dog becoming a beloved pet is winning hearts.
Amy Kanakuri, who lives in Waianae, Hawaii, was training for a half-marathon when she came across a stray dog. As she ran, the dog began running toward her.
She quickly realized the stray was friendly. Amy, along with her husband Ross, took the dog to the vet and then to the Hawaiian Humane Society. Once vaccinated, the couple officially adopted her, welcoming her as a beloved member of their family.
The couple has named her Mahina.
Thanks to this chance encounter, the lives of the couple and of Mahina have changed for the better!
Teacher surprises students with personalized hats based on their own drawings.
Ashley Lowry, a first-grade teacher at Wallace Elementary School in Kelso, Washington, gave her class an art assignment to color a winter hat template.
Ashley worked with her aunt, Amy LaFave, and meticulously sewed 22 individual hats matching the students’ unique designs!
After the holiday break, she surprised the students with the real version of the hats they had designed for the assignment. The hats matched the colors and patterns the children had chosen.
The students were overjoyed to receive this thoughtful and creative gift!
“They love accessories. I’m really excited to see these hats bouncing around. I think they’ll just love it, and just that pride, and it’s something they made,” said Ashley.
