A simple interaction puts two kids on a new journey of friendship.

Leo and Kai were practicing on their own on the Central Middle School track in Anchorage, Alaska.

Leo was hitting golf balls and Kai was tossing a football by himself. Eventually, Kai began to help Leo pick up the golf balls. A simple hello bloomed into a beautiful friendship between the two.

Leo taught Kai a few golf basics like holding a golf club and how to swing and hit a golf ball.

“I thought it was kind of fun. It’s fun to teach people new things, it’s fun to have people to hit golf balls with,” said Leo.

Moments like these remind us that even small interactions can bring joy and help us feel connected. Take the time to stop and say ‘hello’. It might open up a world of new possibilities!

More than two decades later, a new teacher reunites with the teacher who changed his life.

An unexpected reunion left Ricky Latimore in awe.

Ricky was attending a teacher training program when he came across Andrea Dowdy, his former elementary school teacher.

Ricky credits Andrea for supporting him through the tough times he faced during his childhood. He considers Andrea as his hero, the one who provided him with a sense of safety and protection when he needed it the most.

Ricky immediately broke into tears as Andrea embraced him in a warm hug.

“What she did for me was change my life. I was ashamed of how I looked, I was ashamed of how I dressed. I was bullied, I was picked on, but there was one place where I was protected and that was in Mrs. Dowdy’s classroom,” said Ricky.

Entrepreneur is taking big steps to support sustainability in the fashion and textiles industry.

It’s estimated that over 60 billion garments are never sold and discarded as waste each year!

Patricia Ermecheo’s Osomtex creates recycled yarns and fabrics out of garments that are discarded as waste.

The Florida-based company uses a special technology that requires no water and no chemicals, which further limits the amount of waste that comes out of the recycling process.

The recycled yarns are woven into new garments, which keeps clothes out of landfills.

“You manufacture the product, the product gets a life, gets used, and then we get that product and transform it back into raw material and incorporate that product back into the circle,” Patricia.

Till now, Osomtex has prevented more than £30 million of textile waste from going to landfills!

Podcast eases loneliness and helps seniors find a sense of purpose

A recording studio in Townsville, Australia has become a safe space for local seniors, where they are able to talk their hearts out and share their unique journeys.

The Extraordinary Ordinaries podcast is part of a volunteer-run program aimed at combating loneliness in aged care homes.

Many older people are vulnerable to loneliness and often struggle with the perception of becoming irrelevant. Sharing their life stories helps seniors connect with others and find a sense of purpose again.

“Once we become of age, our relevance factor tends to drop down. It’s a feeling of empowered relevance — I still matter, I have things to offer, I want to be able to tell my story,” said podcast editor Michael Kaltenbaugh.
